the origin story

hi, we're melt.

the story of a mom, a stubborn streak, and a few thousand hand-poured candles.

01

the big-box breakup

every love story starts somewhere. ours starts in 2022, in a candle aisle, with a mom reading an ingredient label and slowly losing her mind. the scents were fine. the ingredient list read like a mystery novel. rachel figured a candle burning in the same room as her kids shouldn't require a chemistry degree to trust — so she left the aisle empty-handed and slightly furious. best decision she ever made.

curiosity got out of hand

it started as a hobby. it did not stay a hobby. the kitchen became a lab — waxes, wicks, fragrance blends, and test burn after test burn while the whole family sniffed everything set in front of them. (they never stopped. they're the quality control department now. you may know them as the sniff squad.) somewhere around batch one hundred, the smoke cleared and melt. was just… standing there.

we sort by feeling, not fragrance-speak

nobody has ever walked into a room and said “ah, top notes of bergamot.” you say it feels cozy. so we threw out the perfume jargon and sorted all 115 scents into 10 moods instead — bath time, winding down, main character, and every feeling in between. find the mood, strike the match, done.

thousands of candles later

every candle is still hand-poured in small batches in white lake, michigan — american-grown soy wax, premium fragrance oils, wooden wicks that crackle like tiny fireplaces. we've shipped thousands, and somehow ended up invited to birthdays, bubble baths, breakups, first apartments, and at least one proposal (we're told it worked). we don't take that lightly.
