what Grand Soir actually smells like

Paris at 9 p.m., in scent form. Grand Soir — literally 'the great evening' — is a golden amber built from benzoin and tonka, sweet and resinous and glowing. Fragrance collectors call it liquid gold, and for once the nickname undersells it.

how black tie captures it

black tie recreates that amber glow in wax: honeyed, warm, slightly powdery, with a richness that reads dressed-up even when you're in sweatpants. It makes a room feel like an occasion.
